
Allison Brooks Janney, born on November 19, 1959 in the United States is an American actress. Her roles on screen and on stage were a highlight of her career , which has spanned over three decades. Janney has been nominated for two Tony Awards and has been presented with one Academy Award as well as the British Academy Film Award. Janney was raised by her parents in Dayton and Boston by her parents, was awarded a scholarship by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to further her education after graduating Kenyon College. Following a string of minor and insignificant appearances on TV and films The breakthrough for Janney came from the role of C. J. Cregg in the NBC the political show The West Wing (1999-2006) and for which she was awarded four Primetime Emmy Awards. For her portrayal of Margaret Scully, a Showtime actress in the period drama Masters of Sex, Janney won this year's Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Guest Actress In a Drama Series. The most notable role she played was her portrayal Bonnie Plunkett.
